Au Relais Saint Maurice

We brought our bikes, and there’s a secure garage to store them. The house is right in the old town, close to plenty of restaurants, and you can pull up to unload luggage before parking nearby. It also makes a great base for exploring the Vienne, Touraine, and Loire valleys. Maurice has tastefully renovated this historic maison, with six comfortable, well equipped rooms and a lovely lounge. His breakfast is generous and delicious, with plenty of distinctive flavours, many of them cooked by Maurice.

The castle-like rooms made the setting feel so distinctive, and Chinon itself is a charming town. Maurice was helpful and accommodating throughout our stay. Breakfast had a huge range of choices, and he varied it from one day to the next. We’d catch the smell of fresh baking from the kitchen each evening and look forward to the next morning.

Breakfast was served in a lovely, formal-but-charming dining room, with silver place settings and a buffet full of options. There are a few house rules to keep in mind, including no photos downstairs and no taking food out of the breakfast area. The location was excellent, with everything within walking distance. Our room was spacious, nicely furnished, very clean, and had comfortable climate control and a modern bathroom.

We found the room well worth the price and would happily stay here for one night or five. The innkeeper’s breakfast was plentiful and tasty, with many things he bakes or makes himself. The hotel is cozy and well appointed, right in Chinon’s old town. It’s a quick walk to Chinon Fotress and convenient for other sightseeing and wine tasting too.
