Le Tsilaosa Hotel & Spa

I got sick and couldn't make the trip to Cilaos, and they kindly cancelled my reservation and refunded me. I wish I'd been able to stay. Their service was impeccable from the time I booked, and I really appreciated their understanding.

The balcony looked out over incredible surrounding mountains, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, too. It's a beautiful, charming hotel in Cilaos, and the staff gave amazing service. The rooms feel a little old fashioned, but they're clean and well stocked. My only issue was that there wasn't a fridge or minibar in the room. A great place to stay.

We were there for two nights on our honeymoon and got a warm, friendly welcome at reception. Our ground-floor room had a small terrace. It had a slightly old-fashioned smell, though nothing too strange. The bathroom looked freshly renovated but already had some problems. Cilaos weather is often cool, and with no central heating in the tiled bathroom, I suspect people forget to open the window. Water then condenses on everything, and mould starts in the corners. Breakfast was decent, nothing special but nothing we felt we missed either. The WiFi was only available in reception at the time, and reviews suggest that may be an ongoing situation.

The staff spoke a little English and German, so we had no trouble communicating. Breakfast is served near reception in a small area, where they cook the scrambled eggs and bacon fresh on a cooker, a nice touch. There isn't a restaurant, and the hotel doesn't offer much in the way of facilities. That was fine by me, since Cilaos has plenty to do outdoors when the weather cooperates. Our room was comfortable and nicely decorated, with a large jacuzzi. It started smelling when we turned it on, so we left it unused. I enjoyed our stay, it was relaxed and friendly, and I'd come back if I found myself in Reunion again.
