Les Pruniers

The front terrace has a magnificent view over the cirque above Mare à Joncs. Inside, the kitchen has the essentials and plenty of storage, and the living room comes with a large dining table, two sofas, and a TV. The garden is basic, just lawn, but it’s spacious and has a barbecue; there’s also one parking spot inside the property. The house sleeps up to six in two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with a double bed plus bunk beds. Wi-Fi is available. The accommodation is basic but fair for €20 per adult. I’ve taken into account that the property is unclassified in my rating.

Great value for money, and very peaceful, with an incredible mountain view. It’s a good base for people coming to hike. The facilities are basic but enough for a few days, and the place is clean. The owner is friendly. I recommend it.

We booked through an agency, then asked to cancel because bad weather meant we couldn’t make the trip. The agency approved the cancellation, but the owner deliberately held up the refund. That’s an easy way to make money, I’d say. The owner was completely unaccommodating. I don’t recommend it.

Very affordable and just two minutes from the town centre, so the location is great. It’s a basic cottage in Cilaos. There are only two bedrooms, though, not three as it’s sometimes advertised, so check before booking.
