Songbird Sanctuary

The hosts were so welcoming, and we loved the authentic French cuisine, local wines, and picturesque setting. The bedding and bathroom were very comfortable too. Songbird Sanctuary really lives up to its name: the place is quiet, tastefully decorated, and had everything we needed. It’s an ideal base for exploring the castles, with Chenonceau maybe a mile away. The house is part of a larger estate, with a couple of troglodyte guesthouses and a beautiful garden.

We only wish we’d had longer here. Naomi did an amazing job with this unique place and was a responsive, wonderful host. It’s peaceful, yet still close to Amboise. If you’re thinking about staying, just book it.

The cave room and shower room were both beautifully decorated. It stayed at an ideal temperature in summer, with natural air conditioning. The owner provided a refrigerator and microwave, so we could eat in. It’s an excellent base for visiting the castles, the zoo, and the Loire Valley.

The host was warm and charming, and the location made it easy to explore the area. I’d worried about the temperature and humidity before booking, but every room has equipment to control both, so it wasn’t a problem. Staying in this magnificent cave dwelling was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Just know that Wi-Fi is weak and there’s no cell service in the caves. I highly recommend it!
