GRAND MESS Clermont-Ferrand

We were in Clermont for local business meetings, not a holiday, so the hotel's party concept was a poor fit. We ended up leaving two nights early, though the problem had nothing to do with the service, location, rooms, or food. The concept simply wasn't clear on the website, in the confirmations, or during check-in. If we'd known, we would've booked somewhere else from the start. On Thursday evening there were lots of people mingling, eating and drinking, with good music and a fun atmosphere. The bar drinks were good, and both restaurants were quite nice, with quick, polite service. The food did feel a little industrial, though. Our room was a complimentary upgrade from the original booking, which we appreciated. It was a two-level loft on the third floor, with a comfortable king bed, big TV, and shower room upstairs. Downstairs had a smaller single bed in a cubby, a little reception area, and a toilet. A patio door opened onto a roomy outdoor patio and balcony, with a pretty view of the mountains. Around 10:30 pm, when we went upstairs, we realized how loud the music was in the room. We waited until closer to 11 and called reception. They told us the music ran until 1 am on Thursdays and Fridays, and, if I remember right, until 2 am on Saturdays. The night staff were extremely kind and tried moving us to a room on the other side, away from the party area, but it wasn't much quieter. Earplugs helped only a little. The front desk team were outstanding and apologetic. Without us asking, they offered full compensation for the part of the stay we didn't use, which was great customer service. For now, it seems the bars and restaurants are carrying the hotel. If we had been on holiday, we might have enjoyed the concept and stayed, so this feels like a neutral review.
