Hotel La Villa des Bordes

The food is a real highlight here. Dinner and breakfast are both absolutely excellent. We also get comfortable rooms, friendly and efficient service, a nice location, and secure parking. We stay whenever we can while travelling from the UK to the Cahors area and back.

We'd planned to break up the trip from Calas to Toulouse with a stop here, and what a great find it was. The people were welcoming and accommodating, and the food was exceptional. Our family of five and our dog all fitted into the room.

The hotel was fine and the location was great, but the food and setting are the main draw. Breakfast at the restaurant was brilliant, with fresh crossiantals, eggs, plenty of breads, jams, yogurts, and really nice coffee and tea. We didn't eat dinner, though the restaurant was busy, so reservations seem advisable in season. If you're after a superb place to sleep, I'd suggest staying elsewhere and coming here at least for dinner.

The restaurant is the real standout, with superb cooking. I started with avocado and tomato with roasted prawn in sesame, then had filet du boeuf, really delicious. We also liked the pretty property, especially the huge dovecot, and all the spots to sit in sun or shade. Our room had tea and coffee, a mini fridge, a multifunction TV, and even bedside power sockets, a rarity in older buildings, even in 2021. Villa des Bordes is family-run, speaks English, and is just outside Orleans, making it a perfect overnight stop for us between the Haute Loire and the Channel ports. The Basilica de Clery-Saint-Andre and the tomb of Louis 11th are a five-minute walk away.
