Odalys City Apartment Hotel - Colmar Centre

We told Appart'Hôtel Odalys City Colmar La Rose d'Argent more than a month ahead that we couldn't make our early-January stay, and sent official documents about the airline changing our return flight. The airline moved it from the 6th to the morning of the 5th, making it physically impossible for us to use the night we had booked, Jan 5-6. They still refused to refund us. I believe this was "Force Majeure", unpredictable and outside our control, and falls under French Civil Law (Article 1218). Their position is that the "non-refundable" policy takes precedence. With 30 days' notice, they had time to resell the room, but kept the money for a service they knew we couldn't use. I don't think that shows professional ethics or empathy. If fair treatment and customer service matter to you, look elsewhere in Colmar. There are plenty of other options that respect guests and the law. Edit to respond to their comment: Those terms and conditions are nullable as soon as they go above the law. Again, under Article 1218, my reason for not being able to go to the hotel counts as Force Majeure, and I provided the hotel with documentation. I wasn't cancelling to book somewhere cheaper or go to my cousin's birthday, which would be a different matter, and I would understand the non-refundable terms being applied then. You're claiming your terms and conditions are above the law, which is illegal. Be grateful I didn't go further and sue you before the French authorities. I just exposed the kind of professionals you are here.

I spent over an hour trying to get in or reach anyone. I rang the parking lot doorbell dozens of times, but there was nowhere to park while going to the lobby. I called over and over, and Expedia tried dozens of times too. No staff there spoke English, which would've been fine if I could have entered the hotel and used a translator app, but I couldn't get inside. I had to cancel and dispute the charges with my credit card company. Across the street, the james boutique hotel was substantially nicer and cost less per night. What a headache.

There's a small kitchen in the room, and it's a good place to stay close to the city center.

It's a pretty standard hotel. I don't have anything bad to say, but nothing really stood out or felt memorable either. The French tourism board rates it 4 stars, though to me it felt more like 3, but who am I to argue with the rating system? Check-in was quick and the front desk employee was friendly. When I checked out, nobody was at the desk. I waited a few minutes, but no one came back and I couldn't find any staff, so I left my key on the computer. The center is about a 7-minute walk away. Dogs are allowed for an extra fee.
