Gîte Ancienne Douane

We dropped into Café à l’Ancienne Douane for a coffee during the Christmas rush. It was packed, as you’d expect at that time of year, but the coffee was decent and came quickly. The service stayed friendly and efficient despite the crowd. A fine place for a quick coffee if you’re nearby, even in the busy holiday season.

We waited about an hour for two Flammkuchen and a pizza, while two tables who arrived after us got their food first. That service was the worst we’ve ever had, and completely unacceptable. The food was okay, nothing special, but we left thoroughly disappointed. Avoid.

We felt unwelcome and were treated badly simply for coming with young children. The staff were cold, as if our presence was a problem. It was shocking to feel that animals were preferred over people, which is unacceptable for a restaurant serving families. I can’t recommend this place to families with kids. Respect for customers should be basic.

We ordered the carbonara and threw up everything afterward. One of the worst meals out we’ve had. If you want to spend the night hugging your toilet, this is the place for you….
