L'Esquisse Hotel & Spa Colmar - MGallery Collection

The hotel is beautifully designed throughout, and the rooms feel very new. We stayed three nights, enjoyed the spa several times, and found breakfast lovely and peaceful. Staff were helpful, and room service was quick. Getting to both the city center and station was easy. I’d recommend it and would gladly come back.

Breakfast had a good range of choices. The room was a little small, but that was fine for one night. The front desk, spa, gym, and general service were excellent. The team arranged the twin beds we’d asked for and brought our luggage up while I was at the spa. Both the receptionist and spa manager were attentive, helpful, and genuinely friendly. Breakfast service didn’t match the rest of the hotel. I asked for four eggs to make two omelettes without cheese, but four sunny-side-up eggs arrived instead, and nobody confirmed the order before serving. The staff member taking my order had trouble communicating in English, which may explain the mix-up. Service at breakfast also felt noticeably less warm, and some of the female waitstaff seemed unfriendly. That was disappointing after an otherwise very pleasant stay.

We were delighted with our two nights here. The staff paid close attention to the details and were incredibly friendly. Our room was large, modern, and comfortable, and the breakfast buffet had lots of food and drink options, plus some à la carte choices. The breakfast room was spacious and a pleasant place to relax. There’s also a very nice bar and a Michelin-starred restaurant. The location worked perfectly for us, close to the train station and within easy walking distance of the Christmas markets. One of the best hotels we’ve stayed at in all our travels. Highly recommended.

The hotel’s art is great, and the staff were lovely and helpful. The breakfast selection is generous. We also liked the stylish spa, which is underground but gets natural light and uses dark tiles. Our room was spacious, lovely, and relatively new, from 2021. Several design choices made the room uncomfortable. The blue lights on the switches beside both sides of the bed were extremely bright and couldn’t be turned off, so I covered them with a pillow. Those switches were also the room’s only lighting controls. The toilet room is by the bedroom entrance and has no hand basin, rather than being a cubicle in the bathroom. This wasn’t a suite. The bathroom has two basins, one large and one small, for some reason. The shower looks spacious, but without a door the heat quickly escapes, so I was freezing as soon as I turned it off, even with the too-small panel radiator on full. There’s a small ledge at knee height in the shower enclosure, presumably to hide the pipes. Water sits on it, gets cold, then splashes onto you, like a second little shower down low. None of that should have been designed this way.
