Caprice Des Neiges

The setting is beautiful, and that's about the best thing I can say. I booked for a business trip during an event in Megève, and the room was tiny. The pictures don't show the reality in several ways, and I got the feeling that room sizes aren't specified online to get bookings. I paid extra for a Mountain View room, but it also faces the main road, so cars and trucks kept passing by. I had said we'd arrive late, and the hotel claims to have a 24 hour reception, but there wasn't one. We got no directions for reaching our room, and the access code didn't work. The room itself was clean and modern, but there was just ONE outlet in the room and one in the bathroom, which made charging phones and my partner's and my laptop difficult. Breakfast didn't look like the pictures. The french bread was very good, but there were only boiled eggs, no fresh fruit, just canned pineapple, some charcuterie and Müsli. The manager wasn't friendly and didn't make us feel welcome. I stay in hotels around the world for aprox 90 nights per year, and this is the first time I've had to write a bad review like this since 2018. The view and surroundings are beautiful, which is lucky for this hotel.

The staff were kind and helpful, and they even changed some ingredients in the fixed dinner menu because of our allergy. Dinner was perfect, maybe a bit too much, and the wines were very good. It's a small, clean, well-kept hotel, with a dining room overlooking the valley and mountains. In the off season it can feel really romantic.

We’ve been out and about in Combloux, France, food blogging as usual, and this family ran hotel is one to stay at if you're in the region. The set menu is delicious, beautifully presented, full of great flavours, and uses locally sourced food from around the area. Give the racalette and fondue a try too if you want to eat like a local. The decor is simple, the staff are friendly, and the food is excellent 🤗
