Hôtel San Pasquale

After finishing the GR20, we stayed a night in Conca rather than at the gite, hoping to take the bus to Bastia the next morning. From our first call, they offered a lift and mentioned the €8 per person charge. The rooms were small but functional, with no problems. The outdoor spaces have some charm, though the lobby is dark and smells strongly of cats. It was lovely to shower and eat at the attached restaurant without having to walk anywhere else for once. The frustrating part came in the morning. The owner took us to the bus stop in St Lucie, as we'd discussed several times, but didn't tell us it was a holiday and there wouldn't be a bus that day. We waited about an hour before a kind woman at the bakery across the street explained there was no bus to Bastia, so we made another plan. The hotel wasn't responsible for the bus schedule, but it would have helped if they'd mentioned the holiday and suggested checking whether the bus was running.

The outdoor dining spot was idyllic, and the food was good. My hosts were so kind and accommodating, and they let me check in early, which I really appreciated after a long day of trekking. Thank you!

The owner threatened to "find us" if we didn't pay the higher fare, which was frightening and frustrating. We'd paid for transport from the airport, but halfway there he said it actually cost 50% more than the price we'd agreed with his spouse. When we asked why, he just said, "the way it is." Avoid at all costs.

The room was small and didn't get much light, but it had the essentials. I picked this place because it's close to the start of my GR20 walk. There's free WiFi in the bar that reaches into the garden, where they serve wood-fired pizzas in the evening.
