The afternoon by the river was the best part: we relaxed under the trees and went in and out of the pool. The setting is lovely, quiet, and quaint, and I did enjoy our stay, though I thought it was pricey for what it offered. I don't regret going, but I wouldn't return. Our room at the Mill was pleasant, if a bit worn, and the bedrooms were nice. The pillows, though, were the worst I've ever had, lumpy foam. The bathroom worked for a bath, but the shower attachment holder was only at knee height and there was no curtain, so showering meant holding it and risking soaking the room. Staff were pleasant, but I didn't feel especially welcome. Check the restaurant menu and availability before booking. There was no vegetarian choice or simple option for teens, and if you skip the restaurant, alternatives are quite a drive away. Breakfast was expensive and seemed to be mostly bread, so as someone who doesn't eat gluten, we went out for breakfast instead.

The restaurant at the old mill has a lovely atmosphere, and the breakfast and desserts there were very good. The food is geared toward distinctive local French dishes like snails, truffles, and goose liver. If you're a picky teenager from Norway, though, there's no "normal" food around. The mill's menu is the only nearby option. Condé, about 2 km away, was completely closed when we visited, but with our rental car we drove another seven minutes to a larger town and found a big supermarket. Our three-bed room was in the castle, with its bathtub bathroom tucked into the left tower. The 16th-century building, big trees full of crows, park, and full moon made for a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and nice. I loved the place and highly recommend it. ❤️

We hired bikes and rode the nearby "green route," a former railway line converted for cycling. It was a great way to enjoy this characterful place and unwind. The hotel staff were friendly and welcoming throughout, and we had fantastic food at the hotel each evening. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful stay!

The spa was one reason we came back for a second stay with our two kids. Because of covid, we hadn't realized we needed to book even to use the spa pool, so we only got to enjoy it one afternoon rather than two. The area is beautiful and relaxing, and I could run in the forest behind the chateau. I love the house's old wood and stone interior. It's unusual and feels very different from our modern home, and the bed was comfortable. The restaurant is decorated warmly, and service was quick, which we liked. The food was so-so and very salty, though the dessert this time looked beautiful and tasted good.

We stayed three nights in one of the beautifully restored and maintained castle rooms. The bathroom was great and the bed excellent. Reception, "le Patron," and all the staff were charming, exceptionally friendly, and polite. They clearly aim to please and did so without a flaw. Dinner in the rustic water-mill was a culinary surprise every night, with great aperitifs and wines too. It's not cheap, but worth every penny, and I can't think of anything to complain about. I'd highly recommend staying for a couple of days while traveling through France. If it weren't for the distance, we'd surely become regular guests.
