Les Jardins de la Glaciere

The setting is lovely, with a garden and terrace right by the river, but our experience with the service was awful. The staff were the least friendly hotel staff I've ever met, and either couldn't or didn't want to speak any language besides French. The bar was usually closed, so there was no food or drink available and we had to walk 20 minutes into town. On our second night, the ceiling leaked. When we called, they told us to move the bed but wouldn't come deal with the leak or offer another room. Don't book here. At least they didn't charge us for the drinks we'd had.

The rooms were clean, nice, and spacious, and the hotel has a lovely location right at the entrance to Restonica Valley. The pool is a good size, and although we skipped the breakfast buffet, it looked great. The outdoor pool area, though, had stopped being cleaned, with leaves and dust on the chairs. With the river nearby, leaving the windows open brought about 20 mosquitoes into our rooms. The air conditioning had already been switched off, with hot air instead, because the nights are cold at the end of September. The staff left a very different impression. The couple seemed completely stressed and overworked, and we'd never experienced anything like their response. The sign said the pool opened at 7, but when I went down at 7:45, the owner told me it opened later. I accepted that and went back upstairs. Later he accused me of expecting it to open at 7 when breakfast ran from 7:30 to 10, as though I were at fault. When we politely raised these problems, the couple reacted aggressively and rudely. It's a shame, because the stay could have been very nice, but that inhuman behavior left us with bad memories.

The pool was under construction, but neither booking.com nor the website had warned us, so the swimming we planned wasn't possible. The only thing reception did for us was upgrade our room from a road view to a river view. There was also an electricity problem during my stay, and no one was at reception after 7:00 PM. If there were a fire or another emergency, who would help the guests? That's irresponsible.

Good location, clean room, and a comfortable bed, but there were several problems. Housekeeping equipment was stored in the hallway, and the noise early in the morning woke us. The outdoor lounge area wasn't well maintained, with lots of leaves and ants. There was no boiler or coffee or tea in the room, and staff were hard to find, leading to long waits. We were sent to Le Refuge for dinner. Prices seemed reasonable, but the food and drinks were poor, well below French standards.
