It may be okay if you’re here for work and know what to expect. For a romantic getaway, it doesn’t seem like the right place. It’s fairly affordable for Annecy, but run down, and the common areas aren’t inviting. There are no curtains, so the room gets really bright in the morning. The service felt stingy. The cleaning rules are strict: strip the beds, take out the trash, and clean the kitchen. That seems excessive. We also asked reception to print four pages and were charged 5 euros. Guest experience doesn’t seem to be a priority here.

It worked well for me, more like an Airbnb than a hotel. My apartment was quiet, clean, and larger than I expected, with a separate bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. The location suited me because I don’t like the noise and bustle of the really busy town. The rooms do get hot, but they’d supplied a very large fan. There’s no receptionist on weekends, which may not suit everyone.

They seem more concerned with their cleaning rules than with guests. There’s a lot of information in the room about cleaning, but not a word about what happens with breakfast or the boxes. We had no breakfast on Saturday because the hotel concierge wasn’t working. They tried to leave a box on Friday, but the girl didn’t speak English, so we thought it had been delivered by mistake. I’ve never stayed at another hotel where guests have to take their trash bags all the way to the bins on the street. You also have to strip the bed linen and leave it in a bag in the bathroom, or they charge a 30E fee.

The location is handy, near a bus stop and within walking distance of the railway station. The room was okay for the price if you’re in town for work, though I wouldn’t pick it for a romantic weekend in Annecy. It’s a basic place, so don’t expect much. The kitchen has the utensils needed to cook, but there’s no hairdryer, and the bathroom could have been cleaned better. There’s no air-conditioning, and sleeping with the window open is hard because of the highway noise. Reception is often closed. Nobody told me at check-in that I needed a code to open the door, so I had to wait for someone to let me in.
