Ferme de la Rançonnière

The restaurant was a mess. The fish arrived undercooked, and when I asked for it to be fixed, it came back microwaved and slapped onto the plate while everything else was cold. The staff were dismissive. The room was awful too, with disgusting carpet stains and mould around the bath and shower screen. There was no air conditioning or minibar or fridge. Breakfast was poorly organised, second rate, and most of the food was gone by 8:30am. No staff were around to help or restock it. The property looks lovely from the outside, but don’t expect a quality stay. It was probably worse than a budget chain and at least twice the price. This was the worst hotel experience in my 30-plus years of travelling around the world. They offered me 15% off if I came back as a gesture. What an insult.

What a find! The setting is superb, the facilities are great, and the food was divine. Staff were excellent too. Our cosy room was small but did the job for one night. We hope to come back.

There’s nothing particularly special about this hotel. It’s fine for the basics, but feels remote, with no nearby points of interest and attractions a fair drive away. The sparse, slightly odd decor didn’t make the room feel cosy or somewhere I wanted to linger. Breakfast was okay, though below what I’ve had at other hotels in France. Functional, but unremarkable.

The staff were welcoming and very helpful, and letting us check in early made things much easier. We had a comfortable room and a very good dinner. The hotel is also well placed for visiting the D-Day landing sites, with Bayeux nearby. We had a great stay over Easter and would definitely return.
