Domaine 'Bel Air

The garden and pool were nice, and that’s where the positives end. We left halfway through our planned stay because we didn’t want to sleep under the same roof as the older woman, who could turn on you without warning. The middle-aged man running the place was friendly, but the woman seemed to have two personalities. If you missed the simple breakfast by even a minute, she’d become furious. I feel sorry for the man stuck out in the middle of nowhere with her. The “Liszt” room was very basic and didn’t have its own bathroom, despite what the pages advertised. You had to leave the room to use what seemed to be a shared bathroom. There are no nearby restaurants or shops. There’s no air conditioning, and the poorly insulated walls hold the heat even at night in summer. Soundproofing is nonexistent, so a door opening carries to the other half of the building. During the Olympics, you’d expect the place to be full, but it felt empty, probably because of these issues. Despite decades of experience, this accommodation has landed at the top of my list of places to avoid. It was a horror.

The hosts welcomed me warmly and took good care of me during my visit to this lovely B&B. I’d definitely come back and highly recommend it.
