Chambres et table d'hôtes La Panacée

The room was spotless and the view was lovely. We had a great first walking holiday here, with a very hospitable family and delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The three-course dinner was a real highlight, and breakfast was lovely too. We stayed at La Panacée for two nights during a walking holiday with luggage transfers between different Chambres d’hôtes. Of all our stops, this one stood out. We felt welcome and at home as soon as we arrived.

The setting is a quiet little hamlet, with lovely towns and nature within a half-hour drive and plenty of other things to do less than an hour away. We had a wonderfully restful week, and Lisette and Arjan made us feel very welcome. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. They stay fairly cool, though on really hot days you’ll notice the heat indoors. There’s a fan in each room, but no air conditioning. The large grounds have shaded parking, a pétanque court, a climbing frame, and a slide. The pool is great for a few laps or a quick cool-down. There’s also a hangar where you can help yourself to drinks and keep a tab, play table tennis or table football, or watch TV on the big screen. Breakfast is nicely prepared, if not especially extensive. Lunch sandwiches and shakes are available on all days except Tuesday and Thursday. On those same two days there’s no communal dinner; on the other evenings, all the guests can share a meal if they want. Everything is cooked on site with plenty of variety and lots of local ingredients. Whether you’re a couple or a group of five, with children or without, it’s easy to have a lovely stay.

We finally got to have our cooking week after Covid forced two cancellations. It was amazing. The setting around La Panacee is breathtaking, Arjen and Lisette are lovely, and the cooking was varied and really enjoyable. The rooms were spacious and very clean, and the pool was beautiful. We also went on several excursions, so there was more to the week than cooking. We were lucky to have such nice fellow guests, too. If you’re unsure, I’d say go for it. I’d happily come back.
