Hôtel De La Plage

Latitude 47° is the main reason we sometimes stay overnight at the Hotel de la Plage, and the restaurant is amazing. The hotel is right on the beach, so staying there also lets us stretch out our beach time. We live about an hour away and keep coming to Damgan, even though there are closer beaches, because it’s relatively calm and has a great beach. The rooms are simply furnished but perfectly adequate when all you need is a place to sleep. It’s the setting, the food, and the service that make this place special. The owners are flexible and happy to accommodate reasonable requests, and the small spa area has been especially welcome in colder months. We thoroughly recommend it. The room was roomy and clean, with a balcony and a view of the sea. The staff were wonderful, and Damgan is a lovely village with oyster farms just around the corner. Give the restaurant a try, you won’t be disappointed.

If you’re in the area, Latitude 47 is well worth a visit. It’s in the little seaside town of Damgan in South Brittany, overlooking the water. For around £50 a head, we had cocktails, an amuse-bouche, wine, and a gourmet three-course meal. Fine dining at French prices is hard to beat. The locally caught fish was cooked just right, and the desserts looked beautiful. The menu changes with the seasons and makes the most of local produce. It’s popular, so I’d book ahead. I only wish I lived closer!

It’s a small hotel right by the beach, with just a 50m walk for a swim before breakfast. The staff were very pleasant. The restaurant is closed on Thursdays, so we had dinner at cafe pecheur in Damgan instead. We’ll gladly come back.
