Hôtel Barrière Le Normandy Deauville

The breakfast was lovely, La Belle Epoque dining room is gorgeous, and our room was pleasantly quiet. Those were the highlights of our night here. The rooms felt dated to me and could use some freshening up, while the service was just ordinary. I didn’t find the hotel especially impressive, and it seemed to be coasting on its old reputation. Honestly, Deauville itself felt much the same during a very quiet weekend getaway.

We paid over 500 Euros for a sleepless night, and the response afterward made the experience even worse. A baby in the room next door cried for hours, still crying when we checked out at 11:30. We called downstairs around 23:00, when it had already been going on for more than an hour, and were told there was nothing they could do. A manager called about 20 minutes later and offered to move us, but we were already in bed and didn’t want to get dressed and pack at 23:30. They should have moved the baby. The manager also offered us another night free, which was little use when we had travel plans after a one-night stay. A refund or partial refund would have made more sense. We had to wear earplugs, and I was awake from 05:30. There were doors slamming in the corridor all night too. The welcome was poor from the start. We arrived at a busy time to find the reception desk empty and nobody greeting us. When someone finally appeared, she ignored us and went to her computer. I had to tell her no one was helping us; she said a colleague would come shortly, but then began checking us in herself. Her colleague took over later, handled things efficiently and showed us to the room. Our luggage arrived soon after. After dinner we tried the bar, sat for 15 minutes without being served, then gave up and went to bed. At checkout they apologized, but it didn’t feel sincere. They offered nothing, not even a small bottle of cider. This was the most expensive hotel we stayed at in Normandy and the worst hotel experience I’ve had. It’s a big place trying to seem grand, but the service was terrible and the noise awful. I’d never recommend it.

The room and service were the best, and breakfast was truly amazing. Best hotel in Normandy, highly recommend!

Matthis at the entrance was incredibly helpful, driving us to nearby restaurants in the hotel buggy or pool car. The pool is beautiful and works well for kids, and the reception team were warm and upgraded us to a suite for our big family. The interior is stunning, like stepping into another era, and the hotel faces all the major superbrands. It’s one of the best places I’ve found for comfort, luxury, family friendliness and amenities. Breakfast has plenty of variety, though the coffee wasn’t great. The self service Nespresso wasn’t good, and ordering from the waiters didn’t improve it. Thumbs up, we’ll definitely return!
