The owners were friendly and happy to share little bits of local knowledge, and we enjoyed the food. We arrived late in the day and they were very understanding. It’s a wonderfully quiet campsite, with a stunning view from the entrance: Chateau Biron is visible across a field of flowers. The signs could be clearer, though, as it was a bit hard to find. Definitely recommend.

The two people running the site were friendly enough, but I wouldn’t use it again. We paid €73 for two nights after booking as a last resort, with no ACSI discount, and there were only 3/4 other units there. The bar restaurant was advertised as open but was shut. Some of the sanitary facilities were closed, including the private cubicles, and the water in the shared washing and shaving area was cold. The pool had lots of dead insects in it, even though the automatic cleaner was running and didn’t seem to be doing much. I couldn’t locate the dog walk area because it was overgrown, so I walked our dogs along the main road. Luckily it was quiet, but that wasn’t ideal.

There’s plenty of choice for staying here, from safari tents and chalets to regular pitches, with both sunny and shaded plots. The views across the grounds are lovely, and the pool is great. It’s a peaceful spot, yet there’s still enough to do for the kids. The new owners are very friendly. Wi-Fi is available at reception and the pool. This place will probably get much more popular soon :).

We ended up at Camping Fontaine Du Roc after a campsite near monpazier, which advertised dog friendly pitches, let us down badly and its owners were so rude we left. Laurent and his family were the complete opposite: warm, generous with their time and advice, and welcoming to our 3 little dogs. The site has chalets, safari tents, touring and camping pitches, plus loads for kids, including an amazing pool with slides. They couldn’t have been more helpful. It’s rated 3 star, but the quality of the staff makes it feel 5 star. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
