The hotel sits in the beautiful former Hotel des Postes, built in 1907, and it’s just a short walk from the heart of the old city. We haven’t seen another significant hotel in a better spot. Our spacious room had a well-equipped layout, with a large bathroom area behind the bedroom, a separate shower and toilet, a built-in couch and table, and a private balcony with cafe chairs. We’re Marriott loyalists and have stayed at several Alofts and other Marriott properties. This one had the fun, colorful style we expect, with a lively lounge, playful furniture, arcade games, several TVs, and the XYZ bar. It’s pet friendly, too. The elevators were slow, so we took the oval staircase to the second floor, which is actually the third above the lobby level marked 0 under European numbering. There’s a pool and fitness center, though we got our exercise walking every street in the old city and using the stairs. Breakfast was included and had a good selection, including an egg station where you cook your own, with instructions for soft, medium, or hard boiled. The gym was decent, and everything looked modern and clean. Still, I felt the place was a bit short on atmosphere and personality. The spa was a letdown for me as someone who loves saunas: at 70 °C, the sauna barely felt warm, the hammam wasn’t running, and there was no bathrobe in the room. When I’m in Dijon, I personally prefer Vertigo by a wide margin over Aloft.

The rooms are spacious and nicely put together, and the beds were comfortable. Two out of the three receptionists we met were very, very friendly. The bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body cream. They smelled delicious, and the cream was thick and hydrating. Water pressure wasn’t great, but it got the job done.

For a single night, it was acceptable, though the value felt rather modest. Aloft Dijon is very central and handy for exploring, but the property seemed a little neglected and could use better upkeep. The air conditioning made noise all night, making it hard to rest. Parking is in a separate underground facility, and the hotel spaces are on a very low level, which makes getting to them inconvenient.

Cyprien and Victor were fantastic and made us feel very welcome. The hotel was excellent, with clean, large rooms and American-sized beds and showers.
