Hotel Victor Hugo

For a two-star hotel, this was a good find. The decor feels a bit dated, but the rooms are clean, comfortable, and roomy, with good beds. Mine faced the garden at the back, and despite being so central, it was very quiet, just a five-minute walk into town. Parking costs €10 a night, and breakfast was €7, good and enough for me. Friendly staff and reception open around the clock. Very good price, and I'd recommend it.

A cute breakfast, and it was delicious. The room was fine for one night, although you can tell it hasn't been renovated in a while. Not every staff member spoke English, but everyone I met could understand it. Nice little hotel.

Trying to sleep was a struggle: street noise came through the thin walls, and people kept testing bedroom doors in the corridor all night. The beds were uncomfortable, and there weren't enough sockets in the bedroom to charge devices. The room itself was dirty, with a broken toilet seat and shower. There was a stained feather duvet on the bed without a cover; apparently that's considered normal in French hotels. The place badly needs updating, parking was an issue too, and the staff were rude, unhelpful, and incompetent. Avoid it.

The rooms overlooking the garden were peaceful, and opened onto a lovely, spacious garden. The bathroom had been newly renovated, and both the room and breakfast felt like great value for the money. It's an independent hotel in a quiet residential area, a little outside Dijon city centre. I wish more French cities had places like this. Highly recommend!
