Campanile Dole

The rooms were clean, but the outside looks very tired and the photos are old. It’s in the middle of an industrial estate. It’ll do if you really need somewhere.

The reception is in a separate building, and the rooms are laid out motel-style, opening straight to the outside. That meant we could hear conversations in the car park in every detail, and it didn’t feel secure for a family. A normal hotel, with rooms opening onto an indoor corridor from a central reception, would have felt much safer with children. Our room also stank of cigarette smoke, and the window shutters rattled all night in the wind. The place sits in an industrial estate and has the atmosphere to match. It was awful. I’ve never given a one-star review before, but people should know what to expect. You’d probably sleep better in your parked car.

The restaurant side was genuinely good, with nice breakfast and dessert buffets and good food. Rooms were simple, clean, and a bit dated, nothing special. Noise was the big problem: you could hear people walking and talking in other rooms, plus toilet flushes and showers. There are no family rooms, so my family of two adults and our son had to book two rooms.

My mom stayed here as part of a Chinese tour, and the treatment she described was disgusting and racist. The rooms were very dirty, with torn, filthy linens. At breakfast, the hotel management seated the whole tour group in a corner with dirty plates, broken tablecloths and chairs, and utensils they couldn’t even use. It looked as though bedbugs had been there forever. Meanwhile, American guests had better food, tablecloths, utensils, and seating. Being Asian doesn’t justify treating people that way. The group complained and asked to be treated better, but nothing was done. They paid like everyone else, so why were they treated differently? Racist.
