The setting at L’Esplanade is stunning, especially at sunset. We started with aperitifs and an amuse-bouche on the terrace, looking out over that breathtaking view. Dinner is pricey, but we thought the experience earned its cost. The menu can make the dishes sound simple, so expect surprises. Our escargots arrived as an incredible garden on a plate, nothing like I’d pictured, and absolutely delicious. The staff were friendly, attentive, and very professional. Many speak English, which helped those of us with terrible French. There’s also a fantastic drinks selection. We’ll definitely be back.

The food was delicious, with lovely presentation and balanced, interesting flavors that still felt typically French. We enjoyed the aperitifs, and the waiters were enthusiastic, friendly, and really nice. Nothing bad to say about it :)

We’d been eating our way around France for two weeks, and this place was near the top of the list. The cuisine was a solid five stars, and you’ll be satisfied whichever way you look at it. It isn’t truffle-level food at 200 euros a plate, but the price isn’t in that range either. The creative, tasty food and charming service were already a treat, and the picture-perfect setting got even better with hot air balloons and a perfect sunset.

We were staying in Sarlat-La-Caneda, so getting here was quick and definitely worth the trip. From its high perch, the restaurant at L’Esplande has wonderful views. The staff did a great job making things feel comfortable, and they were lovely. Very good food, plus a great wine selection.
