La Vieille Ferme

A peaceful spot and a lovely, cosy cottage. I’d happily come back.

The downsides stood out: the electric heating and poor insulation, beds that are only 1.80 m long, breakfast made up of supermarket items that you have to prepare yourself, and very slow Wi-Fi. Still, the cottage is pretty, quiet, and secluded, and it was clean, especially the fridge and freezer. The hot water was good, and Thury-Harcourt is 4 km away.

The English owners were friendly and helpful, and our cottage was clean, recently renovated with quality materials, and welcoming. It’s very well kept and has plenty of equipment, from a freezer and individual washing machine to board games, a fully stocked kitchen, and even an iron. The owners also made the furnishings and decor distinctive and original. One rental is beside the owners’ house, while the other three are about 100 metres away on a former farm site. There’s plenty of shared outdoor space, a shaded garden for each rental, and a chicken coop. Electricity is charged separately at the end, about €4 for three nights including laundry. Cleaning was included during our stay, a €100 deposit was required, and bed linen could be rented for an extra fee. The only small gripe is that the front door could use a blackout curtain. I’d recommend the cottage.

There’s a supermarket a few kilometres away. The place was very clean and the welcome friendly. You can make or heat your own food, and sheets are either something to bring or rent separately.
