Au Passage des Grues

We were walking the Via Francigena and only needed somewhere to sleep for the night, but the hospitality was so generous. Since we were on foot, they made us dinner: homemade vegetable gratin, a cheese platter, two bottles of water and a bottle of wine. We were too full for dessert. In the morning there were freshly baked croissants and baguette, and they sent us off with lunch packs. What more could you ask for?

We really enjoyed our four days there, and we’ll be back. The place has a very relaxed feel, with nice rooms and a good breakfast. There’s a new owner who still needs some time to get the hang of things, but he’s keen to learn, so I think he’ll get there.

Our group of eight and a large hound were very well looked after by the host, who couldn’t do enough for us. The accommodation is spacious, tidy and friendly, out in rural France. If you need a stop while travelling through France, you’d be hard pushed to find a better one.

There are chickens, horses, dogs and even a turtle around the place. We ordered a cold bottle of champain for only 15 euro :) It’s charming and friendly, new and clean, and good value without costing much.
