B&B HOTEL Dunkerque Centre Gare

Breakfast was very disappointing, with no fruit available. The room had no individual air conditioning, and the bed linen was stained and dirty. I had to change it myself because neither the cleaning staff nor the receptionist took care of it, and the receptionist didn’t seem to know how to make a bed. It was unpleasant to rest with loud shouting from the street at night, so it’s better to keep the windows closed.

The cold breakfast buffet had no ham or other cold cuts. If you don’t eat pork, dairy, or eggs, or are sensitive to them, you may have to find a shop so you don’t go hungry. That’s a big part of why I’m giving this one star. The shower has only one door, so the bathroom can flood if you’re not careful. There’s no adjustable air conditioning or proper ventilation either. Instead, a wall vent blows cold air full force straight at your head while you’re trying to sleep. It felt like riding a motorbike without a helmet, and the icy blast freezes the smile right off your face. I’ve stayed in many B&B hotels, but this one left a very bad impression. Don’t be surprised if you wake up to cockroaches watching you, several pairs of eyes in the form of 1.5-2 cm bugs. I’m sorry you don’t believe me. I’ve attached another photo of one on the toilet brush, and made sure the images included location data. At least the rooms were clean, the staff friendly, and the windows well insulated from outside noise. The central location right by the train station wasn’t a problem either, since buses, trains, and crowds couldn’t be heard.

The location is great, right across from the Gare, with lots of excellent restaurants nearby. This was another stay during a cycling tour, and I’d happily come back. The staff were helpful and efficient, and my room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. Breakfast doesn’t offer as wide a selection as some competitors, but the food is good quality and replenished often, so nobody should go hungry.

Staff were exemplary and spoke English, and the internet was fast and free. The hotel is right across from the Central Railway steps and city buses, with the entrance facing the buses. Rooms were very clean and housekeeping came every day, even on a short stay. There’s a fast elevator, which British tourists will notice, two paid coffee machines, a drinks dispenser, and a free microwave in the lobby. A shopping center is two minutes away, with a great brewery and dining pub open until 11 pm. Reception is staffed 24/7. The entrance locks after 10 pm, but reception can let you in. Totally recommend.
