ibis Dunkerque Centre

We stayed for one night on the way home from Amsterdam, hoping to see some of the local WW2 sights. The location worked well: town is a ten-minute walk away, as is the Operation Dynamo museum, which is well worth visiting. The family room was very affordable, clean, modern and well equipped. It was quiet and comfortable, and we slept well. The extra-wide bath was a nice feature. We requested parking and it was easy to secure a spot in the basement for 10 euros. There was electric car charging too, which helped. We didn't book breakfast because of our dietary requirements, but they were happy to give us hot water from the breakfast machine. Everyone was really nice and friendly. Dunkirk itself is lovely, and we'll be back and stay here again.

For the price, this is a very good hotel. The staff are pleasant and helpful, the rooms are a reasonable size, and parking is free around the corner. The bathroom could use modernising, but it works fine, so it wasn't a big issue. A couple of things bothered me: someone next door could be heard drilling at night and first thing in the morning. The walk to our room in block B at the back smelled of garbage, especially on our first day, and I wasn't keen on making that walk every day. The room door also doesn't lock properly, so you need to make sure it's shut when you leave.

The location is ideal for walking around the harbour and its bars and restaurants. We stopped for one night on the way home from a motorbike tour of the Alps, and had pre-booked secure underground parking, which mattered to us. The hotel and rooms were clean and tidy, and the staff were welcoming and helpful.

The receptionist sent us off with a lovely surprise: we ordered two espressos in the morning, and she brought over two freshly baked croissants. We had a great stay, with clean, comfortable rooms and friendly service. The hotel is handy for the station, town centre, and beach, and the price felt very fair for what we got.
