Sous l'abricotier

We were the only guests, so it was wonderfully peaceful. The room was simple, and dinner was lovely, served with so much care. Everyone was friendly from the start. When our starter motor failed in the morning, they even gave us a push start.

Bertrand is funny, easygoing, and happy to be flexible. There’s a pleasant garden, and the room had lots of artwork. A charming, homely B&B if you want somewhere quiet.

We were given a packed lunch for the walk and Bertrand even called to sort out trouble with our luggage transfer. Such helpful hosts. The next morning, we had a French breakfast in the cool air under the tree. Since we're English, they’d asked if we wanted eggs and the like, but that was fine with us. The day before, we’d sat in the walled garden beneath the apricot tree, then shared a home-cooked supper outside with Bertrand and Helene. Bertrand brought out his home-brewed citron aperitif, and we had a bottle of local red wine. They both speak English, though they encouraged us to try our French. We stayed one night before setting off on the Cathar Way. Bertrand and Helene gave us a warm, helpful welcome, and both of our rooms felt homely and lovely. Each had an ensuite shower and a separate WC.

Bertrand's hospitality made for a wonderful evening. I've never had such a beautiful night as this one.
