Valpré Lyon Hôtel

Getting into Lyon is easy, since a nearby bus goes straight to the city center. We had a roomy bedroom with a modern bathroom, and breakfast was very good. The hotel itself sits in a large wooded park, a pleasant spot for a few days in the Lyon area. The staff were friendly.

The online photos made the place look great, but I found it disappointing. Everything seemed old and poorly maintained, and you can't drive up to the entrance to unload. On Sunday morning, we were woken at 7:30 by chairs and tables being moved for a full hour, apparently to prepare a meeting room. When I told reception, she seemed not to care at all.

I stayed at Valpre-Lyon from 21-29 June 2024 for an official workshop. The grounds are huge and lush, with large trees, mini-golf areas and pet-tang. Food and service were quite good, and there was plenty of parking and accessible infrastructure. There are lots of portable water fountains, so remember to bring a reusable bottle. Travel safe and stay well.

The garden outdoors was the nicest part for me. It was quiet and relaxing, and even during a workshop I enjoyed the peaceful mornings looking out the window. Getting around was a struggle, though. The place is far from both the airport and the city, public transport was difficult, and an Uber to vieux lyon averaged 20 Euro one way. It's also up a steep hill, with no nearby grocery shop, which was inconvenient since dinner wasn't included. Service was very poor and staff could be rude at times. The food was average, and religious restrictions weren't respected, with ham next to cheese and people using the same fork for both.
