Hostellerie du Château

We found the bathroom spotless, and the beds and pillows were really comfortable. The place looked clean as soon as we walked in, so I was surprised by another review that gave it one star over something that wasn't obvious to us. With restaurants closed or fully booked on December 31, the staff suggested several nearby places, about 6-10 minutes away by car. The church bells rang from 9:00 to 9:30 and again from 10:00 to 10:30, which bothered me because I was tired after a festive night and wanted to sleep in. Still, I do like the sound of morning bells, and the village is very cute and charming.

I last stayed at the Hostellerie perhaps ten years ago, and the new owners have done a lovely job with it. The room we had was in an extension into the neighboring house, and it was spacious and comfortable. If you can, I'd choose a room looking out over the plaza and castle. Breakfast was served in a charming little area, with a well-stocked buffet.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the location is excellent. We stayed four nights and had dinner at the hotel twice. Breakfast was nice too. A lovely little hotel, and I really enjoyed our stay.

Eguisheim is a peaceful little town with timbered houses, and this hotel sits just off the central square in what seems to be an old building. Inside, it has a contemporary feel. Our superior room was relatively spacious for France, with comfortable beds and a view of the stone wall and central square. I'd happily return to both the hotel and the area. It's a useful base for driving around, though dining and shopping choices in town are limited, with more options nearby. A few things to know: there's no air conditioning, just a large fan that didn't do much to ease the heat. There isn't an elevator, and parking is in public lots nearby for 3€ a day. The winding village streets may be tricky for some drivers. Our bathtub was slippery and awkward to get in and out of. These are common issues in older European buildings, so I wouldn't hold them against the hotel.
