Hôtel Marie-Louise

We picked this place because we used to live nearby and knew the trains and buses. Of our five nights, one was acceptable, though not great. On the other four we got maybe three hours of sleep a night, even with earplugs. Other guests talked and had the TV loud until 3 or 4 a.m., and the walls are paper thin. If you need sleep, I’d look elsewhere. There are dogs, cats and chickens around, so allergy sufferers may want to stay somewhere else. Some leave “presents” in the hallways. The outlets were coming out of the walls, and there were other possible safety issues. Parts of the bathroom were pulling away from the tub, though at least the hot water worked, the best thing about the room. They clean daily, but there was hair and other leftover mess that needed a proper deep clean between guests. We thought the price was decent at first, but after staying there it seemed too high. We feel for them as a small family-run place, but don’t plan to come back.

Anna at reception was always helpful, and the hotel staff are top class. The rooms are just a little old.

The location was the only real plus. The lake is beautiful, and there are some great restaurants nearby, including Da Giovanni Italian behind the hotel. Check-in felt like being at a zoo, with cats and dogs running around. The decor is dated throughout. My room smelled strongly of smoke, had damp patches on the ceiling, and the sockets were all coming away from the wall. The bed felt like a concrete slab. At €92 a night with no breakfast, it’s a joke.

The manager was very friendly, and the rooms were clean. The cold breakfast and the lobby, patio and dining area were disappointing. The room was small and the price high, though that may just be typical of France.
