La Colline Aux Cabanes

It’s just five minutes from the town center, with everything you need in the cabin and a magnificent view. The welcome by phone and text was warm, and the accommodation is unusual. Getting to the cabins or back to the parking area at night is difficult because there isn’t enough light. The slope is steep, so leave heavy loads behind. The sleeping setup was the downside for me, causing back pain and feeling uncomfortable depending on your height and build.

The view didn’t look like the photos, the parasol was broken, and the showers weren’t very clean. It was unbearably hot inside, with no window to let air in, and the bedding was uncomfortable. We won’t be back.

It’s a bit out of the way on the village edge, though only a few minutes’ drive from Le Puy-en-Velay. The cabin is tiny, even though it sleeps four. There’s a kettle, electric hob, and so on.

We came back for a second stay as a family of four, with our two kids and little dog. The view is magical in the morning and evening, and the sunset over the hilltop churches was superb. It’s so peaceful all day, and waking up there is a pleasure. The owner even took us at the last minute and was accommodating. We loved the location, the quiet, the view, the terrace table, chairs and parasol, and the low price. We came for the cabin atmosphere the kids love, not luxury or lots of indoor space. You need to pack light, use the outdoor storage, and eat outside, so it won’t suit you if you plan to do everything in the cabin. You also have to bring your own sheets and toiletries, including soap, towels, and toilet paper. It’s a good idea for people who can manage on their own, but not for anyone after hotel comforts, attentive service, or being waited on.
