Gîte La Grenouillère

The village bakery deserves a mention too: its chocolate croissants were still so fresh the next morning, you'd have thought they'd just been baked. The place itself is lovely, set in a charming region, with a peaceful green area where you can really relax. The owners were kind and made us feel very welcome.

We really enjoyed our stay. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, and there are plenty of walks to choose from. Back at the spotless cottage, we had a magnificent garden with a table and garden furniture for eating outside. Mountain bikes are available too. The hosts were charming, helpful, and attentive.

The quiet setting near the forest was a real pleasure, with nature all around and a large, shady garden. The very comfortable gîte La Grenouillère had everything we needed. We even had wildlife for company: partridges one morning, then a hare in the evening, along with a pheasant, wood pigeons, herons, and others. There was plenty to discover nearby, including the fortified churches of Thiérache, especially the magnificent one in Esquéhéries, and the sites and places associated with Ernest Lavisse, the Count of Paris, and Marc Blancpain in Nouvion and Guise. We also visited the Familistère of Jean Baptiste Godin, who was born in Esquéhéries, and the castle. Further afield, we went to the Matisse Museum of Château-Cambrésis and the Basilica of Saint Quentin. A great family stay!

We felt at home from the moment we arrived thanks to the very warm welcome. The cottage is fully equipped and sits in a fantastic location. A lovely spot for anyone who enjoys peace and nature.
