La Villa 10

The buildings we were shown were beautifully renovated, warm, and nicely decorated. It’s a very nice mansion with good service, and breakfast was very good too. The property has three buildings about a minute’s walk apart, which isn’t convenient in the dark on a winter evening. The main building is beautiful, but parking is tight and needs to be booked ahead. We didn’t know that. Breakfast timing seemed poorly managed, with people queuing for tables, so I’d suggest getting up early and going down early.

La Villa 10 in Étretat was a comfortable, clean place to come back to after exploring the coast. The bed was comfortable and the room was well maintained. Staff were friendly and helpful, including holding our luggage on the final day so we could go for one last wander. The hotel is close to the beach but far enough from the busy area to stay peaceful. We had a very enjoyable, relaxing stay.

We arrived in Étretat planning to stay here, but both the main entrance and parking gate were shut. The woman on the phone said she wasn’t there and gave us the hotel address while we were already at the barrier. We couldn’t make out what she was saying, and then she kept answering only to hang up. Five minutes later we had checked into a neighboring hotel. Owners, who answers your calls? Sorry for disturbing her more important business.

The young woman who welcomed us at reception during our second check-in was kind, and the location is good. That’s about all I can say in its favor. The hotel itself is new and has a distinctive style, but the woman who first received us was unkind. She claimed our booking was for three single rooms instead of two doubles and a single, and said two guests would each owe an extra €15. We showed our Booking.com reservation, which clearly had two-person double rooms, and she checked her system and saw we were right. Then she asked if we wanted breakfast, which we declined. She next said arriving an hour and a half before check-in meant we owed parking for two whole days, €25 per day, or €50 for one extra hour, plus an early check-in charge. We said we’d move the car, and the parking area was empty. Her behavior was unacceptable. The room had a French bed that was too small for two. For €547 for one night for two doubles and one single, it absolutely wasn’t worth it.
