Best Western Plus Palais des Congres

I was here on a work trip with three co-workers. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast had lots of choice. I couldn't get the coffee machine to work with the pods, so one of the staff, whose name I think starts with N, maybe Nicole, made me a small French-pressed coffee instead. I honestly can't remember her name and wish I could. She sometimes works at the bar too, and served beers on tap to my co-workers and me. She really made the stay great.

For the price, the rooms were good. The bar and dining area were being renovated noisily while we were there.

The room was cleaned when I asked on day five of my stay, which was meant to last more than two weeks. They took a dirty hand towel I'd left on the floor, refolded it, and put it on the shelf under the sink. They didn't change the bedding. When I asked, I was told hotel policy is not to change bedding for long-term guests. The gym is barely bigger than a closet, with only three machines. The treadmill is completely broken, and the cable on the weight machine looked close to snapping. The exercise bike works, though it's not very sturdy. I told staff the water cooler was empty three days ago, and it's still empty; I have another week here. Update: downgrade to one star. The weight machine cable broke while another guest was using it. A piece of metal hit me on the side, and the whole pulley arm fell on the man. I ran to get hotel staff. The three women who came to the fitness room seemed uncaring and indifferent, even though I'd already reported the machine as dangerous. Some staff are genuinely friendly, while others act like requests are a bother. After reading other reviews and seeing the prices, I decided against trying the restaurant. The hotel's best feature is its location, next to a shopping centre where you can buy groceries and other things. Getting in can be awkward, though, because the entrance and parking are off a one-way street. The mini fridge is tiny, and there's no hot plate or microwave. The coffee maker takes a very specific pod, and there are no kettles in the room. In the USA this would be a below-average hotel at best, but in a French town with few other hotels, you can almost feel grateful for basic amenities.

A standard hotel that met all my expectations.
