Hôtel Bristol

Brigitte and Daniel were so kind and helpful. We got a detailed tour from Brigitte, including a demo of the fancy, complicated hydromassage. The room had what we needed, though a small refrigerator would have been useful. Daniel lent us a plug in cooler for our stay, so we could keep the fresh milk for our morning coffee. We also appreciated the free wifi, and were glad the hotel was non-smoking. We don’t watch TV, but there was one if we wanted it. We had breakfast one morning and it was fantastic, with plenty of fruit, cheese, meats, eggs, croissants, baguettes, coffee, and more. They showed us how to get around town and gave us a map. When we needed a taxi at 6:30 AM, Daniel came in early to call one for us. We’d highly recommend the Hotel Bristol to anyone visiting this area of France.

The hotel worked really well for our two overnight stops on the way to and from Burgundy. We received a warm welcome, and there was storage for our bikes and bike carrier. The rooms were a good size, and breakfast was good too. If you want to eat at a good restaurant in the centre of Chalons on a weekend, book ahead. We tried Le Chaudron Savoyard on a Monday and enjoyed a raclette.

We came back this summer as a stopover on the drive from Switzerland to the UK, after staying here about five years ago when the AA sent us following a breakdown on the A26. We remembered how well they looked after us during that stressful time, and the welcome was just as warm this time. Our lovely family room had a double and single bed, plus a folding bed for our 11 year old, as well as a TV, wifi, bath and shower, separate toilet, and tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast was fabulous at 11 euros. On the hotel’s recommendation, we went out for dinner at a restaurant in a nearby shopping area. Chalons is lovely to visit, and I highly recommend Hotel Bristol. I suspect we’ll be back.

We stop here every year or two on trips to England or on our way back to our home in Switzerland. It’s a lovely, quiet hotel with impeccable, modern rooms and an extensive breakfast. They cater for Vegans/Vegetaliens like me, and the hosts are about as friendly and accommodating as you could hope for. Highly recommend!!
