Hotel Hor Les Lumières

The room felt damp, grimy, and worn, with spotted sheets and mold on both the ceiling and in the shower. It was smaller than the photos suggested, and the hotel had more of a hostel feel. There wasn’t a proper hair dryer, and the heater made strange noises. On our last night, after heavy rain, water leaked from the light fixture onto the bed. Some things are inexcusable even for a budget hotel in Paris. The front desk man was rude when we arrived, though the other staff were very friendly.

The room was damp and tiny, with mold around it and a leaking roof, and it looked nothing like the online photos. Staff were nice, which was the one bright spot, but that couldn’t make up for the room’s condition. We got just two bottles of water for five nights. This was honestly the worst part of my Paris trip. The experience was that bad.

The other hotel employees were VERY polite, but one employee’s behavior spoiled that impression. At 7:30 I had coffee and bread with cheese at breakfast. Then at 9:30 I went back to get something for the road to the airport, as my doctor had instructed. A woman asked for my room number in a very insulting way and said I wasn’t allowed to have breakfast again. There were other people there. I took four pieces from the large baguette and spread marmalade on them, nothing else, and said I’d eat them upstairs after the way she’d treated me. In the end I left them on the table. After that behavior, I didn’t mention the doctor’s instructions. This kind of person ruins the good impression made by all the other employees.

Friendly staff and a good location near the subway, restaurants, bars, and supermarkets. We had a good stay, and our room was clean and comfortable.
