We stayed in the Prince Frederic suite, and the vaulted ceilings, period pieces, and even a secret passage we stumbled on made it feel like a king's quarters. The hotel itself is a medieval palace turned four-star stay, though to me it felt close to five-star, and it's one of the most beautiful places I've stayed in France. The restaurant is excellent, so make time for dinner. Right in the center of town, it's near everything while still being very quiet. Figeac and the nearby villages in Quercy, Aveyron and Tarn are special to visit, and Hotel Mercure made a great base for exploring them.

We picked this hotel for my birthday in November. The room was excellent, breakfast was good, and the staff were kind and friendly. At the restaurant we ordered two surprise menus, but I wouldn't really recommend them: the dishes were small portions from the main menu, the beef stew was cold, and the Escagot was very salty, so there wasn't much of a surprise. I'd suggest the steak and desserts instead. The waiter also brought the wine late.
Dinner felt like a real experience, and breakfast was delicious. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, and the hotel itself is gorgeous. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive.
Dinner was exceptional, and the service was great. The Figeac Mercure Hotel is a wonderful place to eat and stay, with large medieval rooms. If you're driving, tell them you want to use the secure, locked parking behind the hotel. Getting there means driving through narrow streets. You can leave your bags at the front, then it's an easy few-minute walk along a path back to the hotel.
We had a superb meal, and the wine was reasonably priced. The demi pension menu is a little limited, though the Maître d was very accommodating about it. Staff we met were friendly and professional. The hotel is a remarkable historic building in central Figeac, full of little surprises, with courtyards, small gardens, a pool, and spots to sit and take in the surroundings. Our room was enormous and had all the conveniences, including a huge bed, fridge, spacious bathroom, and air conditioning that cooled adequately during our visit. Parking takes some planning. Vehicle access is restricted, which is understandable in a historic city, and staff went to great lengths to help with bags if you stop briefly at the doors. The garage is a short walk away, but the route is very steep, so less able guests should take care. It would help if the website or booking details explained this. I'm sure there are arrangements to assist guests with reduced mobility. The air conditioning worked well enough for us, but the website and booking details advertise it as having a cooling function without caveats. A note in the room says it's centrally controlled and might be set to either heat or cool. Some clarity online would help people make an informed choice.
