Château de Thorens

Dinner was a highlight, especially the chicken, which may be the most delicious we've ever had. We also ordered a fine local wine and had chocolate cake for dessert. Christian, Annie, and Daniela were exceptionally kind and welcoming, and made us feel like part of the De Sales family. It was an honor to meet them and stay in this historic medieval castle, set among the rolling hills of the charming French countryside at the foot of the impressive French Alps.

Annie and the rest of the staff were amazing. I brought my daughter and mother to this beautiful Chateau, and they made us feel like queens. This was the best part of our trip, even though we loved the whole trip. We'll return someday.

The only tricky parts for me were working out the washer and dryer and getting in and out of the high tub/shower. The rest was a wonderful experience: gorgeous scenery, great staff, a delicious salmon dinner, and an equally good breakfast. The food was local and high quality. We were the only family staying there, and a thunderstorm made the experience quite memorable.

The grounds were impeccable, the rooms were great, and breakfast in the great room was fresh. The owners were kind, welcoming and incredibly attentive. I went to see the Tour De France nearby, and this may be the coolest place I've stayed in during a year of traveling around Europe. Thorens Castle is 500 years old and still family owned. Make sure to take a tour of the museum and the dungeon / knights quarters. I can't wait to go back.
