Grand Hôtel du Parc

The room was far smaller than the website suggested. There was barely space to get past the bed, and the bathroom was painfully tiny. No shower or safe, despite both being advertised. The younger man at reception was kind and tried to move us to a larger room, but there wasn't one available. The bed was comfortable, and he was the one good part of the stay. When we asked for two pool towels, a little man who seemed to spend a lot of time around the front of the hotel responded with rude, abusive comments. After that he kept glaring at us. It was appalling to be treated that way for asking for towels so we could dry off after the pool. We looked for another hotel, but there were no rooms left in town, so we stayed reluctantly. We also had to walk through piles of laundry and supplies at the entrance to our wing every day. It felt like entering a service basement, not a lobby.

Back here after 17 yrs, and it was lovely to find the hotel still in good shape. The location works well, the pool is a real joy, and everyone we met on staff was friendly and helpful. Room servicing was excellent too. A really nice second visit.

The location, garden and pool are the few good points. If the weather turns bad, there's less to enjoy. Since it's practically the only hotel in Florac, it seems to have let a lot of things slide. The room was incredibly noisy, with other rooms all around us and paper-thin walls. Forget a nap or a long night's sleep, the first person awake will wake everybody. Soundproofing is zero. Service didn't feel welcoming either. No smile or questions about how we were doing, just the sense that we were bothering them and were only a credit card. The rooms and beds are tiny, so if you're tall, the bed's a problem. After 8:00 pm the parking is full, so you have to pay and park outside. In short, go only if you have no other choice.

We came as a big group of motorcyclists, and the hotel suited us well, with secure bike parking and excellent roads all around the area. It's an older place in a great location, the staff were friendly and welcoming, and the food was good.
