Hôtel Pyrène

We stayed here on the way to Andorra and were pleasantly surprised. The room was modern, clean, and very spacious, with a large bathroom. Breakfast had a good range of food, including cheese, ham, eggs, and pastries. The hotel also has a pool, which isn't common for a three-star place. Staff were friendly and helpful. It's about a 25-minute walk to the city center.

The price got us more than we expected: spacious, clean rooms, a great pool, and a very good breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful, and there's a grocery store nearby. Town is a short drive away, though you can walk there too. The location is a bit odd, but it wasn't a big problem. Well worth it.

Foix itself is a nice little town, and we found a good brew pub by the river, Brasserie de la Fourche. But getting around from the hotel had its downsides: the walk into town would be unpleasant on a hot day, with no shade, and the parking machine was absurdly confusing, with bad directions and worn-off labels on important buttons. The photos also don't show the hotel wedged between an industrial park and a highway, so it felt noisier and less isolated than expected. The room had air conditioning, but the fan wouldn't run without the chiller, and opening the window meant highway noise. There was a small second room with a sofa, reached by going up and down two uneven steps from the bedroom. The bathroom was off that room, so finding it in the dark meant using a flashlight to manage the steps. The toilet was bizarrely loud, and flushing it made the building shake. Breakfast was minimal: the croissants were dry and flavorless, and the automated coffee machine made weak coffee. Wi-Fi was practically useless, connecting and dropping every couple of seconds. It was okay for the price.

A simple, clean place with what you need for a short stop. The bed was very comfortable, and the large bathroom had a walk-in shower and separate toilet. It's a five-minute drive from Foix center, making it handy for a stopover. There's also an outdoor pool and tennis court, plus parking that doesn't need to be booked ahead. Breakfast is available for €8 per person from 7:30 am, but we left early and didn't order it, so I can't say how good the food is. Recommended.
