L'Orée du Bois

Demonstrations blocked the road, so we had to cancel our visit. We tried to work out a compromise, but the hotel kept the full payment, ignored our emails, and brushed off our calls. The service was awful. I wouldn't recommend booking here: they showed no understanding of circumstances that were outside our control.

The views from our spacious, cosy room were beautiful, with snow-covered mountains in sight, and the ensuite bathroom was large. The hotel was warm and comfortable, with polite staff and lovely vintage decor. Breakfast had tea, coffee, or hot chocolate, plus cereal, toast, croissants, fruit, yogurt, cheese, and cured meat. For skiing in Font Romeu, the location was perfect: it was just 200 steps from the front door to the ski ticket office. There was also parking and ski storage. I'd definitely recommend it.

The microwaved Spanish meals tasted good, but the temperature was hit or miss: sometimes steaming hot, sometimes cold inside, while the plate was hot enough to burn you. The owner wasn't very hospitable either. Serving cheap Spanish supermarket wine in France seemed odd when France produces so much wine. It's definitely not somewhere I'd go back to.

We spent two nights here. The room was warm and comfortable, and the staff were super friendly. I'll be back.
