The breakfast was decent enough, with a good range to choose from, but the dinner restaurant had just one vegetarian option, a plain soup. I went to Lidl instead. For a motorway stop, the location is handy, but I wouldn't stay here again. The cottages sounded nice, though booking one was a mistake. It was poorly cleaned, and the heating ran for about an hour before switching off. I couldn't restart it from the control panel. Outside it was -3 degrees overnight, and the room was badly insulated and freezing. The duvet wasn't warm enough, so I got an emergency blanket from the car. The floor was ice cold too, as if there were no insulation between it and the concrete foundation. I could hear everything from neighbouring rooms, and a clicking noise every minute kept going all night. I went back to the car for earplugs and slept about three hours. Maybe the main hotel is better, but I'd avoid the Cottages. I gave two stars because breakfast was okay. Nothing vegetarian at dinner in 2025? It felt like the Middle Ages. If you stay in winter, be prepared, maybe bring a bottle of whisky.

We stopped overnight on a longer drive south and got a really good rest. The beds were great, it was quiet and clean, and the service was very polite even in the middle of the night.

At 10 p.m. it was still 30 °C outside, and the eight of us were in two small rooms at 32 °C indoors. The air conditioning for the whole floor was out of order. The receptionist said she'd contacted her manager about a possible discount, but there didn't seem to be any repair or alternative offered. Opening the window brought in intrusive motorway noise. For a holiday booking, these conditions seriously compromised the service we'd paid for, and immediate action and fair compensation were expected. The room itself was small, with just one small bottle of water for four people. There was no fridge and nowhere to dry wet towels. The food was good quality, though the portions felt small for the price. The pool was small but in acceptable condition, but a loud ice cream freezer right beside it ran constantly and spoiled the atmosphere. The explanation that the air conditioning had only failed that day was hard to believe.

The rooms feel really modern, and the restaurant is stunning. Service was excellent, but breakfast was disappointing.
