I’ve stayed here three times in recent years and have been pleased each time. The rooms are clean and well appointed, and perfectly suited since you’ll spend most of your time outdoors. Service is first class, and the patron is attentive and happy to help with anything. The food is sublime, especially the fish, and the restaurant is a relaxing place to wind down at the end of the day. If you visit Beg Meil, stay at Hotel de La Cale. You’ll be glad you did.

The afternoon garden and outside area are mostly in the shade because the place faces east. It’s well situated just up from the Cal at Beg Meil, but even in summer it has a rather desultory feel. The service feels “old french”: slow, a bit grudging, and not very helpful. Just try asking for a wifi code! It feels like a glimpse of Beg Meil’s past rather than its future.
