Hôtel Château de la Marlière

The restaurant food was under-seasoned and disappointing, so I'd suggest staying at the hotel and eating elsewhere. The hotel itself is splendid, in a building renovated to a very high standard. Our room was excellent, with a view over the grounds.

For five adults, there simply wasn't enough food at breakfast, which cost 18 euros per person. We saw no sign of other guests that morning, but the woman looking after breakfast didn't seem interested in helping us. It took ages to get her attention. She didn't speak English, so we spoke French, and eventually she brought coffee and orange juice. There were three cakes, three pieces of cheese, and two slices of ham. The juice and water bottles were nearly empty too. A table sign said omelettes were available on request. After she had been away for 20 minutes, she returned and we ordered five. They were the saddest omelettes I've ever seen, just two eggs with nothing added. We had to pay for breakfast again in town. The hotel itself is very basic. Don't waste your money.

Our room was in the smaller building beside the Château, and it got very hot. Even with the window open all night and a fan running constantly, it stayed around 25 degrees, despite the outside temperature being about 14 overnight. The main building is nice, the staff are very friendly, and breakfast was okay, though not great. It was also a plus that we could borrow tennis rackets.

A great place to stay on our way to France. The rooms were clean and lovely, service was good, and breakfast had lots of choices and tasted delicious. I'd recommend it.
