Petit Garros

We felt at home at Petit Garros and hated to leave. The host made us feel welcome right away, was incredibly kind the whole time, and served a very tasty breakfast. The location was ideal for us: tranquil and idyllic, though only a short drive from town. The guest rooms and the rest of the house are beautiful, with modern touches like A/C and lovely bathrooms that fit in with its historic character. I rarely post public reviews, but our stay was so wonderful I wanted to share it. Highly recommend!

We liked it so much that we added another night. The place was quiet and relaxing, with a very nice host and a beautiful property by the river. There's a pool and a lovely garden, and the old building has been remodeled inside, with antiques throughout. The pianos were a favorite. The bathrooms are new and modern, and breakfast was very good, with fresh bread and jam made by the hostess. Vineyards and old towns are just a short drive away.

The hosts welcomed us so kindly from the moment we arrived. Their exceptional house sits among vineyards near the river, with a beautiful view around it. The bed and bedding were comfortable. In the morning, they graciously served coffee, tea, fruit, yogurt, croissants and bread. For dinner, the host suggested nearby restaurants and called to help make a reservation. Highly recommend!

You'll need a car to get around the Bordeaux wine country, including here. Le Petit Garros is in a peaceful spot by the river in the Fronsac wine region, about 45 minutes east of Bordeaux city center. The stone farmhouse has been beautifully restored over decades by Jean-Charles, whose eye for detail shows in the big beamed rooms, antiques paired with contemporary touches, and lovely garden. Our room was spacious but cozy, with a high ceiling and a modern full bathroom in the loft. Breakfast was delicious. Jean-Charles was the real charm of the place: always ready to help us plan the day, sharing his favorite vineyards and tips for a good meal. He even offered to help me gain confidence in French by speaking English with my husband while he and I spoke only French. We'd love to return and highly recommend Le Petit Garros.
