Villa Gavarent

The garden has lovely views of several peaks, and we often watched flocks of griffon vultures overhead. Nearby we also spotted bearded vultures, golden eagles, and alpine marmots. The garden is large and adventurous, with a river running through it, though there’s no play area for children. The cottage is spotless, well maintained, comfortably furnished, and well equipped, and the owners are very friendly and helpful. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the bakery and small shop in Gavarnie, and we set out on several beautiful walks from there, including to the Cirque de Gavarnie. The cottage is in a fantastic part of the French Pyrenees. Gavarnie gets very busy during the day, and cars park along the nearby street, but that didn’t bother us since the cottage is about 30 meters from the road. We had a wonderful week. If you love nature, mountain walks, and peace and quiet, this is the place.

There are plenty of hiking trails (GR) close to the house, and the Gavarnie-Gedre ski resort is only 10 minutes away. The hosts were very welcoming and gave us excellent tips for exploring the valley. The house is warm and well designed, with lovely decor and everything well equipped. It was a superb stay, and I’d gladly return.

The owners were very friendly and always ready to answer questions. The house is in a peaceful spot, though the village bakery and small grocery store are just a short walk away. We stayed here for our holiday in September 2021 and had a wonderful time. The house is well maintained, with tasteful, comfortable furnishings and excellent amenities. We especially loved the garden and its magnificent terrace. There’s a mountain stream and waterfall on the property where you can swim if you don’t mind the cold. The views of the Cirque de Garvanie are breathtaking. We highly recommend this house.

We spent three unforgettable days here and absolutely loved it. The river runs along the property, and you can dip your toes in, though the water is pretty chilly. The terrace is nicely arranged, with a barbecue and table for meals, plus another spot for tea or snacks and a bench with an exceptional view. Inside, the house was clean, fully functional, beautifully decorated, and had so much equipment available to rent. We felt right at home. The views take in both the Cirque de Gavarnie and the Gave de Holle river. It’s about a five-minute walk to the town center at an easy pace, so we didn’t need the car. A great family spot if you love the mountains, with an easy walk to the Cirque de Gavarnie that children can manage on foot or by donkey. Martin communicated really well and made us feel at ease, which helped make our Ascension weekend superb. We’ll be back!
