The terrace has a stunning view, and the staff are especially friendly and welcoming. Add in the great food and excellent wine cellar, and this is our favorite spot in France. Ask the host for wine recommendations. I’d also suggest hiking at the Demtelles de Montmirail.

The family who own and run the hotel made our four days there feel special. They learned our names and remembered little things, like which table we’d picked for aperitifs, and put us there again for dinner. The food was excellent and fairly priced. The wine list is extensive, though a little more expensive, which makes sense for the region. We also appreciated having air conditioning during the August heat. It’s a lovely setting, and you can walk through the woods into Gigondas. WiFi gets unreliable when lots of people are using it, and phone service in the area isn’t great. Still, we’d definitely return and bring others along.

We came for lunch as a group of eight adults and three small children, aged 3, 2, and 1.5. The staff were friendly and helpful with the kids, and made all of us feel welcome. That’s unusual for a stylish restaurant like this. The food was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented, even the children’s dishes, which weren’t the usual chicken and fries. We tried the lunch and bistro menus, while the kids had the children’s menu. Prices were fair, and there was a great wine selection. The terrace setting and view are beautiful. Inside, the hotel and restaurant felt a little dated and dark, so try to get a table outside. We didn’t stay overnight.

Even in pouring rain, we had a lovely one-night stay. The restaurant was the highlight: the fixed-price menu was really good, the kind of French food you hope to find in France and often don’t. The staff were efficient and friendly, even to us English. The hotel sits on the hillside leading up to Mount Ventou, looking over a green valley. It has a lovely French feel, with tiled floors, dark wood furniture, and a big terrace shaded by trees. I’d recommend it.
