Chambre d'hôtes Les Rouges Gorges

Eric was helpful with restaurant suggestions and a little information about the area. Our Maisonette cottage was comfortable and well equipped, with baguette and bread left at the door and tasty jam and orange juice in the fridge for breakfast. It felt like a fairytale, and the garden was beautiful. We sat outside with wine when we arrived, then visited Monet's house and walked in the woods in Giverny the next day. The Jardins are a 10-minute walk away. Vernon is a 10-minute taxi ride, with an easy shuttle available too, or about an hour on foot. There were a few spiders, and the place isn't for anyone wanting a sleek, modern stay, but it was clean and comfortable. We had a lovely time at Les Rouges Gorges.

There was no heat in the room, and I was there in November. I'm leaving early because the place is unlivable. The fridge had expired, half-eaten food that smelled bad, apparently meant to be breakfast for a three-day stay. The coffee machine hadn't been cleaned, and I couldn't contact the owner. There's a 5 cm gap in the door, as shown in my photo. It feels like nobody has looked after the place for a long time, just left it to run on its own. I strongly don't recommend it. It seems like a money-making fraud.

The website's picture of a charming place with outdoor dining doesn't match what we found. The bedrooms weren't ready, and the accommodation wasn't clean. The owner was aggressive. Breakfast was bread tossed into a paper bag on the table and half a cup of coffee. It was shabby beyond words, cold and unfriendly. Don't go here.

Eric was wonderful, answering all our questions and even stopping by during breakfast. It's a rustic place, with no air conditioning, though luckily we didn't need it. I wouldn't think of it as a hotel, more like 'glamcamping'.
